By , August 3, 2020

What do Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Jim Bowie have in common?

Yes, they were all 19th century frontiersmen. But they are also the names of three wood-fired pellet grills manufactured by Green Mountain Grills (GMG).

Let us introduce you to these bad boys (available at Rich’s for the Home). Plus, we have several delish recipes to share with you!

Meet Davy, the portable go-to grill for tailgating, camping, and small families. Davy comes with lots of goodies that are optional on other manufacturers’ grills:

  • Digital WiFi controller – Download the free iOS or Android app and control and monitor your grill from your home’s WiFi network, or remotely, using server mode.
  • Meat probe
  • Peaked lid for rib racks
  • Convenience tray with utensil hooks
  • Open-flame technology grease tray
  • Sense-Mate – a thermal sensor which constantly monitors grill temperature.

Davy Crockett can run on 12V or 120AC, so it’s perfect for on-the-go use. Davy weighs 57 pounds and his foldable legs allow for easy placement in the trunk of a car.

Jim is Green Mountain’s largest backyard model. This guy's just rarin' to cook for a block party!

Jim Bowie comes with the same standard features as Daniel Boone, only he’s bigger. Jim weighs in at 185 pounds, measures 51”H x 70”W x 24”D and features a 40x16” cooking surface and 13.5” clearance inside – plenty of room to fit a stand-up chicken/large fowl/rib racks.

Grilling With Hardwood Pellets

GMG pellets are made out 100% kiln-dried sawdust that never touches the floor. Pellets are held together with the natural lignins in the wood.

Premium Gold Blend pellets are oak-based and a larger diameter pellet that allows them to last longer than standard-size pellets. At Rich’s, we sell a variety of pellets and smoking chips to enhance the flavor of different types of meat and fish.

On GMG pellet grills, a motor turns the auger, which feeds pellets into the firebox. There, a hot rod automatically ignites the pellets, and a combustion fan below keeps them burning.

Vents vertically line the inside of the firebox, creating a circular air flow. A fan inside the pellet hopper maintains positive pressure, which prevents burn-back in the auger tube.

These two air flows create the ultimate wood-burning fire, circulating pure hardwood smoke flavor.
