Fire pits started gaining popularity last season, and this summer, they’ve become the must-have outdoor furnishing.
One reason fire pits are so popular – besides the fact that they’re perfect for both dining and relaxing outdoors – is that you can mix-and-match table shapes, hearth tops, finishes, and bases to create a unique look.
You can also customize the fire bowl with such materials as a traditional log kit, ceramic rocks, lava granules, or tumbled glass in a variety of colors such as “herbal tea,” “ice,” or “black.”

A fire pit provides the ambiance and comfort of a campfire minus the smoke and ash. Fire pits are designed for outdoor use, but they are not wood-burning, so you shouldn’t attempt to cook (or roast marshmallows) over them.
Many fire pits have adjustable flames and they are powered with either liquid propane, gel fuel (an alcohol-based blend), or natural gas.
Some fire pits double as a beverage cooler. Others, such as this Contessa Counter Height Fire Table (from OW Lee), have a lazy Susan option that you can use when dining, and then switch that out with the fire bowl for after-dinner relaxation.
Here are some pictures to give you a sampling of the variety of fire pits you can special order from Rich’s (we also stock several models in our five Puget Sound-area showrooms):
(New at Rich’s): LeeStone Cocoa Beach from OW Lee. This fiberglass-infused cement product is veined to look like stone and has a five-year warranty.

If you prefer a smaller fire pit at a mid-range price, consider the new Corsica Chat Height Fire Pit from OW Lee. It is designed with a hearth top that sits inside a metal rim. A love seat and two club chairs fit perfectly around the Corsica.
